Since 2004, the Begum has supported the German AIDS Foundation by promoting awareness and raising funds. German AIDS Foundation supports various projects for victims of HIV and AIDS in Germany, mainly in Berlin, and also in Africa.

The annual Festive Opera Gala in Berlin is a main event for raising funds and public awareness on behalf of German AIDS Foundation. Together with the founders, Mr. Alfred Weiss and Dr. Alard von Rohr, the Begum - as Chair of the Charity - welcomes around 2000 guests at the gala every year, where world renowned artists perform in support of this cause.

The German AIDS foundation funds a variety of projects with the proceeds of the Festive Opera Gala, for example, medical treatment for HIV infected pregnant women in African countries in order to prevent transmission of the HIV virus to their unborn babies. Other projects include the housing project Reichenbergerstrasse in Berlin. Here HIV/AIDS victims can come for help and assistance with accommodation. Many AIDS victims find permanent accommodation and treatment at the centre and are looked after by a dedicated team of carers.
